Most of our guides compare several products for one need, for example “best treadmill under £500” or “best exercise bike for tall people”. This page explains how we put them together, so you can judge how much weight to give them.
What we look at
- Specifications from the manufacturer: motor power, speed and incline range, belt size, resistance type, maximum user weight, footprint and folded size.
- UK price and availability at the retailers we link to. Prices change often, so always check the retailer’s current price before you buy.
- Warranty and after-sales support: frame, motor and parts cover, and whether UK servicing is available.
- Verified buyer reviews: we look for patterns across many reviews, such as noise, assembly problems or reliability, rather than single comments.
What we don’t do
- We don’t physically test the products we write about. Our guides are based on research: manufacturer specifications, retailer listings, warranty terms and verified buyer reviews. We never say we’ve used a product when we haven’t.
- We don’t rank products by commission. Some products we recommend earn us nothing.
- We don’t make up discount codes. Our deals pages only list offers we’ve checked on the retailer’s own site, on the date shown.
Sources
Our guides list the main sources they rely on, such as manufacturer specification pages, retailer listings and NHS guidance, in a numbered Sources section at the end. We’re adding these to our most-read guides first.
Keeping pages up to date
We update guides when products are discontinued or replaced, or when prices change significantly. If you spot something out of date, please tell us and we’ll fix it. Significant fixes are listed on our corrections page.
