Introduction to the Sole SB 900 Exercise Bike

When it comes to buying the right bike, I get it – it’s never easy. It’s like walking down the shopping isle only to see 1000 variations of the same product, and we can’t blame ourselves for being a little lost here. If only we have someone to guide us… if only.

Over the course of this article I’m going be throwing an array of different terms at you. But this isn’t a game of ‘know the technical phrase,’ and if it is, then I want you to win. Here’s a little warm up round for you.

I’m going be using terms like, light commercial, adjustable seat, indoor and outdoor cyclists, quiet and smooth ride, integrated console displays rpm, heart rate training zones, magnetic resistance, and more. Now hopefully you didn’t score too badly, some of these are pretty self explanatory but for the harder ones, well, I wouldn’t be a great reviewer if I didn’t break them down for you.

Our test subject for today is the Sole SB900 indoor cycle. It’s a solid bike with a great look that will most likely fit any environment you want it to. One of the great things about bikes like this is you get health club quality for home gym price, and with small dimensions and a light yet durable frame you’ll be free to move it around wherever you want to.

Let’s get into the dos, the don’ts, the nooks and the crannies of why this wonderful bike will brighten up your life, and, most importantly, offer you fitness solutions to keep you fit from the every comforts of your own home.

Let’s get into it.

Overall Verdict:

Wow. Look at this thing. Like the SB700? Well just like its somewhat less fortunate little sibling, it looks incredible. It’s modern, sleek and innovative design reminds me of Olympic grade kit, and I can’t wait to ride it again.

With a reasonable price given its professional look, feel and onboard engineering, I highly doubt you’ll be able to find too many faults with this bad boy. If you’re after an extremely quiet workout then the Sole Fitness SB900 is a great option. It’s light yet well balanced, and the lower level of resistance gives you a nice riding experience, guaranteed, every time. The trick is with the balance of lightness and durability. This magic trick has been revealed with heavy steel tubing as the highlight. heavy steel tubing isn’t so heavy when compared with the rest of the bike’s dimensions, material usage and lightweight components. This is a great bit of engineering, and I can’t fault it.

Part of the reason as to why I love this bike is because I always knew I would. No, I can’t see into the future, but I did know that new and enhanced editions of bikes are usually good. So, when I co-tested the SB700 with a colleague, I knew the SB900 would be the killer evolved version. I would absolutely rate this bike the highest it can be in pretty much every department. As for its downfalls… we’ll get onto that in a mo.

What I Liked About This Exercise Bike

With a reasonable price given its professional look, feel and onboard engineering, I highly doubt you’ll be able to find too many faults with this machine. If you’re after an extremely quiet workout, then the Sole Fitness SB900 is a great option. Its light yet well balanced, and the lower level of resistance gives you a nice riding experience, guaranteed, every time. But what else comes as a heavy surprise in a world filled with light? The flywheel weight… this thing packs a heavy-duty 22kg feel, so despite the fact it can feel light, the heavy flywheel makes for a high resistance and smooth riding experience.

So, with a smooth and quiet ride, a great flywheel design, incredible looks and a professional feel, what else do I love?

The console.

Displaying workout info, even with your integrated tablet holder if you want, is an absolute must in the modern world. But to achieve optimal results with a console on a bike then, you need to do a few things, and given the limitations of super lightweight, small-sized equipment, it’s safe to say that Sole Fitness have. With a small yet effective display, the console displays to you the following readings – Time, Speed, Calories, RPM, Watts, Heart Rate, Distance. It doesn’t have any fancy programmes, but it doesn’t need to. It’s a stellar bike with fitness as the focus and a lightweight approach to come with it. Love it.

Things That Could Have Been Better

Okay the downsides time… every bike has its downfalls and while I’d be quick to jump at the console’s minimalist approach I can’t really, it’s part of the design and very much intentional. If you do want a more fleshed out tech experience then I’d definitely recommend something else, but even then you can still hook up fitness apps to your phone and used the integrated tablet holder.

I would have liked to have seen higher levels of magnetic resistance given the weight of the wheel too. It’s not a deal breaker, and I do cherish a quiet ride, but still, workout routines always benefit from the potential for higher resistance levels, and the current magnetic resistance is fine but not up there with the best. While it still delivers a road bike feel, some of the bikes you can get give an incredible dynamic terrain feel but this is just a minimal build with minimal focus and for some that is a deal breaker.

FAQ’s

Does fitness equipment noise matter?

For some, yes. Think about neighbours, family or friends. And hey, even think about yourself – your ears are just as important here, and if all you can hear is a loud bit of kit, with no earphones in sight, then it may be a good one to go for.

Do most weight capacity specs give enough room?

Absolutely, by and large, you’d have to be a pretty big character to exceed a lot of these weight limits. That said, it’s always something worth considering and it’s great that companies do this – by having this figure diminished it cuts off a lot of people from being able to lose weight and get healthier.
